This post is one that I am SO excited to share with you all. I had the amazing opportunity to photograph a dear friend of mines labor and delivery. I have known Jessica and Brandon for 3 years now, we met when they hired me to be their nanny for their two boys. So when she asked me if I would want to photograph the birth of their next baby, I immediately said YES! To be honest, I had never seen a birth in real life before, let alone photograph it. I was a little nervous (that I would sob uncontrollably), but mostly excited.
Friday April 26th I got the text message I had been waiting for, “Jess is going into labor, I’ll keep you posted.” I jumped up and got my camera bag all packed and waited to be called in… minutes turned to hours and soon it was 1am, I decided to get some sleep. Around 3:30pm on Saturday I made my way to the birthing center. I walked in and was over whelmed with the amount of peace in the room. Jess was in the tub looking quite relaxed for someone who was in a lot of pain so I started taking photos the only way i knew how, capture the moments. Being in a situation that was completely new to me, I didn’t want to miss anything, so I kept reminding myself to step back, and just photograph what was in front of me, and wow. What an honor. I had chills, cried, laughed and smiled more than I thought possible in an hour. Birth is probably the coolest, most amazing thing that I have ever witnessed.
a side note: they chose not to find out what they were having, scroll to see their reactions.
